Rohtas Religious Tourism Center: Chaurasana Temple is an ancient Shiva temple in Rohtas district. Where 84 stairs are climbed and reached. This site built after the yajna by King Harishchandra is a confluence of religious faith and natural beauty.

The Chaurasan temple is also called the Rohiteshwar Mahadev Temple. It was named “Chaurasana” (84) due to 84 stairs which are climbed to the temple. In the local language it is also called “Chaurasana Siddhi”. As these stairs climb, devotees start to experience spiritual height.

It is believed that this temple was built by King Harishchandra in the 7th century AD. According to mythological belief, he performed a yagna here 84 times to get a son. Finally, he received his son Rohitashv, and he built this temple on the ashes of the yagna. This story shows the supernaturality of this place.

Over time, the roof and main pavilion of the temple are now in a shabby state. It is said that it was damaged by invaders. Despite this, the faith of Shiva devotees never broke here. Now plans for renovation of the temple are being made by the administration.

When this temple is wrapped in a sheet of clouds, the scene is so captivating as if nature itself is adorning it. Devotees say that this place seems as if heaven has come down on earth. This scene is not only full of faith, but also hypnotizes nature lovers.

This temple is especially a very sacred place for Shiva devotees. A large number of people come here to offer prayers on the month of Sawan and Mahashivaratri. Devotees from far and wide including Jharkhand reach here. People believe that the worship done here is fruitful soon.
