Chenab Bridge, which is part of the USBRL (Udhampur -Srinagar -Baramulla Rail Link) project, is the world’s highest railway arch bridge. It is present at a height of 359 meters above the bottom of the river. This bridge built on the Chenab river near Salal Dam is 1,315 meters long. Its main arch is 467 meters long and it can withstand the winds up to 266 kmph.
In height, it is 35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower and is about five times higher than the Qutub Minar. 28,000 MT steel was used in the construction of this amazing bridge. For the first time a special cable crane system was installed in the bridge by Indian Railways, with two large cable cars and 100 meters high pylon to cross the 915 meter wide gap.
