Khajjiar is located in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh and is situated at an altitude of about 6,500 feet above sea level. This famous tourist place is about 20 kilometers from Dalhousie. The mountains surrounded by deodar and pine trees all around, the green plain in between and the lake in between make this place like a dreamland. In 1992, seeing the beauty of Khajjiar, the Swiss Ambassador gave it the title of “Mini Switzerland of India”. Since then this place has become very popular among both Indian and foreign tourists.
What is special in Khajjiar
The main attraction of Khajjiar is its Khajjiar Lake, which is surrounded by greenery. There is a small island in the middle of the lake, which is considered a perfect spot for clicking photos. The view of the snow covered peaks of the Himalayas from here touches the heart. If you are fond of adventure, then you can also enjoy activities like zorbing, paragliding, horse riding and trekking here. Apart from this, the Khajji Nag Temple located nearby is an ancient religious site, dating back to the 12th century. The architecture and wooden carvings of the temple make it special.

How to reach Khajjiar?
To reach Khajjiar, first you have to reach Dalhousie or Chamba. The nearest railway station is Pathankot, which is about 95 kilometers from here. From Pathankot you can reach Khajjiar by taking a taxi or bus. If you want to go by air, the nearest airport is Kangra (Gaggal Airport), which is located about 120 kilometers away. It can also be easily reached by road from Shimla, Dharamshala, Manali and Amritsar.
Do a trip like Switzerland in budget?
The special thing about Khajjiar is that both travel and stay here are very budget-friendly. If you are traveling from Delhi or Chandigarh, a 3-4 day trip can be done comfortably for around ₹6,000–₹8,00. There are good facilities for homestays, guest houses and resorts to stay here. Best time to visit
Khajjiar is beautiful throughout the year, but the best time to visit is from March to June and September to December. If you want to enjoy snowfall, then the time from December to February will be perfect. At that time this place is completely covered with snow, which truly makes it “Mini Switzerland”.
