Kevladev National Park: After traveling thousands of kilometers from Russia, Kurjan birds have reached Keoladev National Park in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. With his return the sanctuary has regained its charm. Tourists and bird lovers are coming in large numbers to see these migratory birds.

Keoladeo National Park of Bharatpur, Rajasthan has once again echoed with the chirping of birds. Like every year, this time too the Kurjan bird Demoiselle Crane has reached Bharatpur on its winter migration after traveling a long distance of thousands of kilometers from the remote Siberia region of Russia. The arrival of these beautiful migratory birds has created a wave of happiness not only among bird lovers and tourists.

In fact, the natural beauty of Keoladev has once again blossomed. Every year, in the first week of August-September, these birds fly from the cold areas of Siberia and enter the Indian border in about 30 days. Their arrival starts before Diwali and till March they migrate to Keoladeo National Park in Bharatpur.

During this time, these birds feed in the ponds, lakes and grasslands and attract domestic and foreign tourists with their attractive appearance. Several major flocks of tagged Kurgan birds are on their way to the Buryatia and Tuva regions of Russia. As soon as the monsoon clouds disappear completely, these herds will also enter the Indian border within the next one week.

Due to good monsoon rains this year, adequate facilities for food and rest are available in the temporary reservoirs and moist pastures built on the way. Due to which Kurjan birds are stopping on the way for some time. Many times these birds also breed here during their stay in Keoladeo. When their children become capable of flying, they all return back to their native place of Russia in the last week of March.

Kurjan birds are not only known for their beauty and social lifestyle. In fact, they also have a special place in Indian culture. Many folk songs have been composed on Kurjan in Rajasthan. In which the song ‘Kurjaan e maharo bhanwar mila de’ is still on people’s lips. Now people have started coming to Keola Dev National Park to see them. Moreover, their beauty can be seen in the park also.

Overall, this thousands of kilometers long journey from Russia to Bharatpur is not only an example of the amazing balance of nature. Rather, it shows why Keoladeo National Park is actually called the paradise of birds. The arrival of these migrant guests has breathed new life into both the biodiversity and tourism of Bharatpur.
