As a result, thousands of villages are vacant today. According to the 2011 census, 1,034 villages of Uttarakhand were declared Ghost Village.
After this, their number increased in the survey of Uttarakhand Rural Development and Prevention Migration Commission, the Commission had given data from the year 2018-22, in which the number of these ghost villages increased to 1,792. There are about 2 thousand villages whose houses are locked. The doors here open on any special occasions.
People are less on the mountains of Uttarakhand, so even agriculture is not done. Due to this, the agricultural sector is also being reduced. Since 2001, about 70 thousand hectares of agricultural land has become barren.
