Hyderabad. Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has increased bus fare in Hyderabad and Secunderabad cities from 6 October. This decision has been taken for the purpose of raising funds to develop charging infrastructure for electric buses.

According to TGSRTC, City Ordinary, Metro Express, E-Ordinary and E-Express buses will have an additional ‘infrastructure charge’ for the first three phases and Rs 10 from the fourth phase. Metro deluxe and e-Metro AC buses will have to pay an additional fee of Rs 5 for the first phase and Rs 10 in the remaining stages.

Increased fare is protesting
Telangana Jagriti Executive Chairman L.K. Roop Singh demanded the withdrawal of the fare -increasing decision from the state government. He says that instead of improving the situation of the bus, the government is putting the burden of rent on the general public. During the festival, this will increase the expenditure on common people. TGSRTC says that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the goal of environmental protection.

The additional revenue collected will be used by 2027 to convert 2,800 diesel buses running within Outer Ring Road to electric buses. This will help in reducing air pollution and promoting clean energy. Currently there are 25 TGSRTC depots in Hyderabad, out of which 265 electric buses are operating in 6 depots.

275 more electric buses will be included this year. High tension charging connections will be set up at 19 depots to accommodate the new fleet, along with 10 new depots and 10 intermediate charging stations will also be built. To raise funds for this project of Rs 392 crore, TGSRTC proposed rent adjustment, which was approved by the state government on 23 September.
