It is believed that this Shivling was brought by Ravana in Satyuga. Ravana did penance of Lord Shiva for 12 years. When Lord Shiva was pleased and asked to ask for a boon, Ravana urged to walk to Lanka. Shivji agreed to go to Lanka, but said that if the land is touched then I will be established there. Ravana agreed and walked towards Lanka with Shivling. On the way, he had a short -standing near Gokarnanath, then he gave a Shivalinga to a shepherd. After some time, the shepherd put him there. When Ravana returned, he pressed the Shivling with his thumb in anger, whose mark is still visible. In the month of Sawan, devotees from far and wide come to visit this wonderful temple.
